Measurement and ordering

How do I measure for new window grilles?

You measure the glass size closest to the glass. On older windows, you measure from wood edge to wood edge past the putty.

Should I measure the glass size or the module size?

We need the glass size in order to manufacture the correct grilles. Module size may give an indication, but it is not enough for a correct order.

Can I measure my old grilles instead?

Yes, if you are replacing existing grilles, it is often possible to measure directly on the old ones.

What information do you need in order to help me?

Normally we need the glass size, glazing bead angle, window material, and which fixing is needed at the bottom.

How do I know which glazing bead angle I have?

The safest way is to measure the glazing bead angle using our guide or our printable angle template. It is often difficult to determine the angle safely from photos because perspective can be misleading.

What does a 0 degree glazing bead mean?

0 degrees means that the glazing bead is straight nearest the glass.

What should I do if I am between two glazing bead angles?

Use your measured angle as your starting point. If you are between two standard options, we are happy to help assess which option is closest, but we base that on measurements rather than photos.

Can you check my measurements before I order?

Yes, please send us your measurements and we will review them before you place your order.

Can I send photos instead of describing everything?

Yes, preferably as a complement. Photos are often useful for clarifying the model, window type and fixing, but the glazing bead angle usually needs to be measured because it can be difficult to judge safely from a photo.

Can you send me a ready-made link to the correct product?

Yes, we often help by sending a pre-filled link to the correct product so that you can easily add it to the basket.

Can I order by email?

No, the actual order is normally placed in the webshop. However, we are happy to help with model choice, measurements and fixing before you order.

Material and colour

What material are your window grilles made from?

Our grilles are made from through-coloured white PVC.

Do you offer wooden grilles?

No, our grilles are made from PVC.

Do you offer grilles in other colours?

All our grilles are manufactured from through-coloured white PVC plastic.

What primer should I use before painting?

We recommend using a plastic primer first and then any suitable outdoor paint.

Can I paint the grilles a dark colour?

You can, but we do not recommend dark colours because the grilles may deform in strong sunlight during hot summer days.

Is it very noticeable that the grilles are plastic and not wood?

Normally it is not particularly noticeable. However, if your old grilles have a very different profile, the difference may become more visible.

How deep is your profile?

Our profile projects approximately 16 mm out from the glass.

Suitable for different windows

Do the grilles fit timber windows?

Yes, timber windows are a common application and normally work very well.

Do the grilles fit aluminium windows?

Yes, in many cases. They are often installed by pre-drilling a 1.5 mm hole through the aluminium cladding and fixing the clip into the wood behind it. On some newer models there is no wood behind the aluminium, and then that solution does not work.

Do the grilles fit plastic windows or PVC windows?

Yes, that often works well. You normally need to pre-drill before mounting the clips, and at the bottom a standard clip is often used because plastic windows rarely have a bottom plate.

Do your grilles fit SP Fönster, Elitfönster and Traryd windows?

Yes, in many cases they do. Because these windows exist in several different versions, we usually need to check the glazing bead and fixing first, for example whether it is SP 0-45 or Elit 10-55.

Do the grilles work on puttied windows?

Yes, but puttied windows are a little special. It is often difficult to fix clips into putty, and the glazing bead is often shallow. Because of that, many customers instead choose to mount the grilles between the panes if the window is coupled or separable.

Do the grilles work on very shallow glazing beads?

In many cases they do, but our profiles project 16 mm from the glass. If the glazing bead is shallower than that, the grille will often protrude slightly beyond the frame or glazing bead.

Are there windows where your grilles do not fit?

Yes, there are certain constructions where fixing becomes a problem, for example if the entire glazing bead is made of rubber, if there is no wood behind the aluminium, or if the glazing bead angle exceeds what our clips can handle.

Installation and fixing

How are your external window grilles installed?

We normally machine clips into the ends of the grilles. Then a small clip is fixed to the window and the grille is snapped into place.

Are clips included when ordering?

Yes, fixing clips are normally included with the grilles.

What do you mean by a standard clip?

A standard clip is our standard fixing method. It is often used on the sides and at the top, and sometimes also at the bottom.

What is a bottom plate?

A bottom plate is used when the grille needs to meet a plate or a special solution at the bottom instead of a standard clip.

What is a guide pin at the bottom?

A guide pin is an alternative at the bottom where the grille is guided by a pin instead of a clip.

How do I know which bottom fixing to choose?

That depends on what the window looks like at the bottom. Photos can often help here, because they usually make it easier to see whether you need a standard clip, a bottom plate or another solution.

Do I need to pre-drill when installing?

On timber windows it is often enough to fix the clips directly. On aluminium and plastic windows, you normally need to pre-drill a 1.5 mm hole.

How do you install on aluminium-clad windows?

Normally you pre-drill a 1.5 mm hole through the aluminium cladding and then fix the clip into the wood behind it.

Do you have special clips for certain windows?

Yes, in some cases there are special clips for specific window types or aluminium versions. If needed, we will help you choose the right solution.

Can I buy loose clips?

Yes, loose clips can be purchased separately, both window clips and grille clips.

Can the grilles be removed?

Yes, our grilles are removable.

Can the grilles be mounted between the panes?

Yes. On coupled or separable double-glazed windows, many customers choose to mount the grilles between the panes instead.

Is there anything special to consider when mounting between the panes?

Yes. The measurement must be taken between the panes because that size is smaller than the outside measurement. On older puttied windows, it is also common for the angle between the panes to be 0 degrees.

Models and special solutions

Can you manufacture standard grilles?

Yes, that is one of our most common models.

Can you manufacture centre posts?

Yes, we have solutions with centre posts only, as well as combinations where the centre post is combined with other grille bars.

Can you manufacture cross grilles?

Yes, in many cases that works well. However, older cross grilles cannot always be copied exactly, because our grilles are removable and therefore have to be built in a way that works with our fixing methods.

Can you manufacture flag grilles?

Yes, we often help with measurements, model choice and ordering of flag grilles.

Can you manufacture double posts?

Yes, double posts can also be manufactured.

Can you make grilles based on my existing old grilles?

Yes, old grilles can often be replaced if you measure them or send us photos and measurements.

Can I replace only a few grilles and keep the rest?

Yes, it is perfectly possible to replace individual damaged or missing grilles.

Can you make special solutions that are not available in the webshop?

Yes, that can often be solved. In that case we need clear measurements, photos or a drawing.

Can you make grilles from a drawing or sketch?

Yes, please send us a drawing or a photo and we will have a look.

How does VAT work for delivery to Norway?

If you have questions that are not answered here, you are welcome to contact us. Please send measurements and photos right away. In order for us to help you, we need the glass size and the glazing bead angle. We cannot calculate the glazing bead angle from the measurements alone, so it normally needs to be measured. Photos often help us clarify the model, window type and fixing method.
