Different Glazing Beads

The glazing bead is the strip around the glass pane. It looks slightly different depending on the window's material and cladding. The attachment varies slightly between wood, aluminum, and plastic. NOTE! Keep in mind that the thickness of the grid is 16mm, and a too shallow glazing bead may make it appear to hang slightly outside the window frame.

Measure the Glazing Bead Angle

The most common angles are between 0º - 30º. There are also dual-angled glazing beads, these options can be found under “Choose Glazing Bead” in the order forms. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us!

Lower Edge Plate

Wooden windows usually have a lower edge plate for water drainage. The grid is attached with a steel clip that hooks onto the edge between the plate and the glass, eliminating the need to drill and nail a regular clip, which could allow water to seep into the nail hole and damage the window.

Guide Holes

Older windows sometimes have a hole centered in the plate where our guide pin can be used instead. If you have plastic or aluminum windows, the lower edge plate is usually completely absent, so regular clips are mounted at the bottom as well.

Download Our Angle Template!

Print the document and cut out the protractor, fold it degree by degree until you find your angle, or cut out the different standard templates 10º and 20º to test. Remember to hold the template perpendicular to the glass for an accurate angle measurement.
